I do not feel it is overreacting when people will die from this. Students will get COVID from school and transfer it to their family members, some of which are definitely at-risk. Yes, school is difficult this year. As an e-learning student I understand just as well as anyone that learning online, even for only part of the week, is hard. But which is better, coping for just a few more months (which is a fraction of the time we've been going through this pandemic) or letting loved ones die? It might sound like an exaggeration, but it's not. This is the reality of the situation. If schools open up full time, soon you will see that too.

Even with those facts, that doesn't change the fact that students are getting COVID. I can name two people off the top of my head from RFHS that I know personally who got COVID-19. I do agree that social distancing and masks work. However, I have seen with my own eyes that students don't social distance when they can get away with it. If teachers aren't looking, they will take their masks off. Not to mention that in the lunch room, it is perfectly acceptable to be sitting shoulder to shoulder at tables, facing each other and completely maskless, for an extended period of time. Social distancing will be very difficult with over 1,000 students plus staff in the building. In a perfect world, these preventative measures might work. But we do not live in a perfect world. More students than ever before will get COVID, transfer it to their relatives, and people will die from this. People may already have died from it, even on the hybrid model.
Also, students might not transmit COVID as quickly, but that still leaves dozens of teachers who can. Not vaccinating teachers puts them in a terrible position they cannot escape, especially the teachers that are at risk. These teachers have families of their own they need to take care of. The last thing they need is to get COVID through their job and spread it to everyone they love. Teachers do so many amazing things for our community; they don't deserve to be put through this.
I respect your opinion, but I hope you will at least consider what I've said.

You might not agree, and that’s your right.
But the facts from the CDC is that kids do not transmit this virus at the rate adults do.
The fact is that social distancing and masks in schools work. Vaccination is not necessary for teachers.
Here’s a link to an article, I know I’ll get hate but it’s the facts. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.today.com/today/amp/tdna207966

We’re at 460,000 deaths. We had 8 cases in the high school last week. How bad would those numbers be if we doubled the amount of hosts?

We need to protect our staff, teachers, and students. Putting more people together is how this thing gets resurgence. And with new COVID variants popping up, we should be careful.

I think that sending kids to school is very unsafe, and puts their own families at risk.

I think we need to find a way of getting this out to more people so that everyone who is against it has a chance to have their voice heard.

I didn't like Stacy Myers or Benson before this and now I have no respect left for either of them. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Going back to school is not going to be safe. It might be borderline okay to go back if social distancing and mask wearing was perfectly enforced, but we do not live in this idealistic world. Many students won't wear masks or social distance if there's no one around. In fact, many students don't. With students getting sick with COVID-19 on the hybrid model, I can't believe that the school ever even considered going full time. It's absolutely shameful. This decision makes it so that students and particularly teachers that have no say in whether they go back full time or not are now risking their lives and the lives of everyone they love because of the mistakes of someone else. I have never been more furious.

yes 100% agree Arlo. then please share it on your Snap and Insta stories and instruct them to re-share it. The students have just as much voice as the school board.
