No benefit shall come from regulating the Method. If anything, the classical version can be adjusted to such a degree that it is no longer recognisable, and it becomes a completely different and wrong, 'physical training system'. NO. Please do not alow anyone to control it.
After being an instructor for over 15 years, pilates is very versatile and can be and should be adaptable to many different types of Pilates and no one self govening body should be allowed to say that this type of pilates is not correct.

The Pilates Method and its various practicioners and instructors are too widespread and too diverse to be safely and fairly brought under the jurisdiction of any singular association, group or individual. Any attempt to do so would simply infringe upon the rights of said practicioners and instructors. No good can come of it.

This petition is about protecting the public, protecting current Pilates Matwork Instructors' jobs and the freedom of choose of future Pilates Matwork instructors as to which training provider they wish to obtain their qualification.
The equipment work needs standards put in place. The Pilates Matwork already has high standards in place and they need to be maintain.
The freedom of choice of perspective Pilates Matwork teachers also needs to be maintained as it is now.
If they want to open a Pilates studio then they should be able to choose which comprehensive school they attend to obtain the correct standard of training for the machines they will be using.
If they will not be using any of the machines and want to teach only Pilates Matwork or want to start by teaching Pilates Matwork before they continuing their education then they should be able to gain a Level 3 Quailification in Teaching Pilates Matwork which adheres to the standards that currently are in place at a training provider that doesn't necessary provide equipment courses.
Removing that right with an unnecessary change to the standard, making it a requirement for Pilates Matwork Instructors only to be able to gain a qualification at a school that provides equipment courses will force already qualified Matwork instructors like me to retrain to get a qualification which we already have. It will also mean instructors currently tutoring quality courses at non comprehensive training providers will lose their jobs.

Anything to stop tyrants with big egos who need to look up the definitions of Fascism and Totalitarianism have a good look in the mirror! Who are they kidding when they say its about the method - its about egos and power and nothing to do with the written goals and objectives of Joseph Pilates either. There was a reason he left pre WWII Germany. Some people ( a vocal few ) make me feel we are going backwards not forward.

Thank you for your comments and and also as a Comprehensive Instructor with 35 years teaching experience I have seen many changes in the Pilates world and also personally see a need for change now. But these changes must be supported by an industry not a few individuals and also people with full experience and a real understanding of the method. As most Studios offer certification , also with the large companies involved in training to instructors, and even the person that brought the technique to the UK , to say this must be managed without the input of these experts is ignoring a vast knowledge which in my opinion is not in the wisest decision of any group.

As a Classical comprehensive teacher I totally agree that experience, teaching skills and correct application of the method are essential- that part of the petition I support.
Joe Pilates started it and the generations of teachers continue. The current Self regulation using National occupational standards for a non protected job title in the UK is not working and has to change for the protection of the public. There are many overlaps with medical issues and the current minimum standards for matwork are not adequate.
Any group representing the method should be completely independent of certification and look at both sides of Pilates -traditional and the contemporary . It is much the same issue as many years ago before the word "Physiotherapist" became protected.
