The proposal to maintain the independence of our practice has been officially upheld. I am grateful for the thoughtful contributions of the 467 people who helped protect the integrity of the Pilates Method. We will continue to monitor the landscape to ensure these choices remain open for everyone.

The aim of this petition is to gather support for the proposal:

The Pilates Method should not be controlled by any one association, group or individual.

The goal of this proposal is to guarantee the individual Pilates teacher, student or enthusiast has their personal choices regarding their education provider and practice protected. To acknowledge that experience, teaching skills as well as the correct application of the Method, taking into account the ability of the client and the teaching environment has relevance. These standards are already supported by unbiased independent government bodies.

Show support for this proposal by signing the petition. We need to ensure that no self regulating organisation, group or individual can unduly influence our future career choices, credibility or income or that of Pilates teachers in the future.

Reaching our milestone of 250 signatures will provide the legitimacy we need when presenting this case to industry officials. Please consider circulating this path to independence among your professional circles today so we can demonstrate the true scale of our unified conviction.

February 23, 2014

Reaching our first hundred signatures represents a significant step toward confirming that our community values professional independence. I invite you to help us reach this threshold so we can present a unified position to those who wish to restrict our practice.

It is essential that Pilates instructors are allowed to evaluate their own training needs and specialisms and decide for themselves who is best to provide that training.

I agree with you Amit on the need for change and the development of what has been created but there has not been full involvement with the Pilates industry for these changes and the "draconian" measures which have been suggested by the PTA without consultation with the industry, how can you say were shaped by the community ?

Most definitely no one organisation should have the control over Pilates. I have attended many courses with different bodies and my knowledge has broadened as a result. No one way is the correct way!

After being an instructor for over 15 years, pilates is very versatile and can be and should be adaptable to many different types of Pilates and no one self govening body should be allowed to say that this type of pilates is not correct.

The Pilates Method and its various practicioners and instructors are too widespread and too diverse to be safely and fairly brought under the jurisdiction of any singular association, group or individual. Any attempt to do so would simply infringe upon the rights of said practicioners and instructors. No good can come of it.
