I am one of the patients who has lost 175 pounds and requires the surgery I require the surgery because I have a rash of the stores etc. and it limits my mobility even though I've lost so much weight. In my opinion and many other peoples opinion this is not cosmetic surgery this is required surgery this is a surgery that gives us people that have lost a lot of weight to have a normal day-to-day life.

We should also be able to have it done by a biard certified surgeon and not be forced to use a general surgeon who does not have the extensive experience that a plastic surgeon has with panniculectomy. I was forced to use a general surgeon and now suffer deep depression as there are several issues I am now left with. I was prepared for a large scar. Not prepared to look like a freak with my belly button off to the left and 1 inch above my pubic hairline. Along with pointed skin on my hips that cause pain and discomfort. Large hard, painful lumps in my pubic area ect. All of which would not have occured with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. I didnt need to look perfect but looking like a freak and having pain mths after along with nearly dying night of surgery have all been a nightmare. And now I am stuck with no means to correct what he severely screwed up. I had gastric bypass they seem to want to be sure you will be emotionally well however when it comes to skin removal they (ohip) could care less about your mental well being and dont care if you are made to look like a grotesque freak. Or that now you suffer pain physically and emotionally. I wish I had died that day. I spent over 20 yrs suffering from obesity and ridicule. I had regained my self confidence and finally felt like I was human again only to have my body made to look wirse then with the loose skin and endure constant pain and discomfort. Something has to change to help all gastric bypass patients again we know we will have a huge scar but it isnt right that its apparently ok to make us look like freaks n have pain. As well it is the only loose skin they will pay to remove. I have skin irritation under my arms due to excessive loose arm skin but have no choice but to endure it.

I had a roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass 2 years ago, have lost about 85 pounds but I still have a lot of back and neck pain, I'm only 4'7.5" tall and I feel that if I have the panniculectomy it could help with the pain in my back and neck, I also have Fibromyalgia so I think the surgery would help with that also

I live in niagara region. I have been referred to 3 surgeons in the area that, A are afraid to do the surgery, or B have cancer patients as higher priority. I have now been referred to this DR with high recommendations. I once weighed over 500 lbs lost a little more than 100 on my own. Before getting the sleeve through gastric bypass. My pannius hangs almost to my knees. It is causing massive infections that make it hard to walk, stand, sit. As well as pain on a daily basis to my lower back and upper legs. I have to have my husband help me up my stairs and to some times bathe. I cannot obtain a job due to this disability. It is crippling my life and I am only 32 years old. If it wasn't for Dr's like this I may never have hope to live a successful life. Or be a positive contribution to society. Please have consideration, for people in my condition and situation. And don't stop trying to help us. It is not always people wanting to look better. Like in my case. I just want to LIVE. Thank you for your time.

For those of us who have had a dramatic weight loss from gastric bypass it is an absolute must. It is a shame on our health care system that ohip will pay for gastric bypass then basically do nothing else for the problems created by the dramatic weight loss. It is awesome we can have the pannus covered by ohip but honestly although this solves the immeduate issue of rashes and sores. It only adds to the emotional distress and well being as it significantly leaves our bodies disformed as many of us also have loose skin above the navel which now hangs like a big spare tire above a much smaller lower side after the pannus is removed. Only abdominoplasty resolves all issues but ohip wont cover it not even partially. And if you go through a plastic surgeon for a panniculectomy ohip automatically says no. Which I dont understand they wont let the surgeon with the most experience with this type of surgery do it but they will approve a general surgeon to do it who DOES NOT have the expertise tha5 a plastic surgeon does. Therefor essentially not giving us any choice and often having results that cause further physical and emotional issues needing further care which in the end costs ohip more...so I wish they would be more pro active and approve anyone who has a pannus regardless of whether they opt for a general surgeon or a board certified plastic surgeon. Its unfair to basically do half a job with gastric bypass then leaving the patient without a means of ridding themselves of the excess skin. I myself have fallen into a deep depression over this. The skin and irratation is just discusting. My arms have so much loose skin that is frail and wrinkly it causes severe itching resulting in open areas but im trapped to suffer as I cannot afford to pay to have it removed and ohip wont cover anything but a panni. After rny the skin causes other health issues. It should be covered by OHIP. As a rny patient we gain more health af er weight loss UT often suffer other issues with all the skin. From sores to rashes to depression from our bodies looking as though we melted. It's very distressing.

Skin removal surgery after extreme weight loss should be categorized as a necessary procedure - specialized plastic surgeons with experience & expertise in excess skin after extreme weight loss are few - With the "obesity epidemic" that concerns our government, one would think that there would be support & encouragement for those who have fought & worked hard to reverse obesity, but are left with the many side effects & discomforts that results from the excess saggy, hanging skin. Quality of life is absolutely improved after surgery and this now healthy person will no longer be burdening the health care system as they would with multiple complex conditions & co morbidities that are caused by obesity.

Reconstructive surgery isn't cosmetic .... & why bother with weight loss if the process of health improvement isn't completed? It's a good investment to give every opportunity to improve health. That's common sense.

My referral to Dr. Nandagpol was sent today for this very procedure...
