Ignorant mobs of cultural marxists should not dictate which statues we can keep. And the police have a duty to uphold the law and protect listed monuments and structures.

Vandalism should not be tolerated, Sunderland Council needs its funds to help all of those unfortunate people who have lost jobs and struggle to feed their children, rather clean up after vandals. History should net be hidden it needs to be discussed good and bad so future generations can learn from it to make future lives better.

You cannot change history. You are meant to learn from it. Destroying things that you are not happy with does not change what has happened. What next tear down the pyramids as they were built by slaves?

Do we want to become a Big brother, Orwellian society, wiping out the past and afraid to speak out? Or learn from mistakes of the past and move on to overcome them?

Strange how this statue has been there since 1861 and yet its only in the last week or two that certain people have only just come out to say they’re offended by it.

Sunderland cc should not be swayed by the far left thugs and vandals, they just want division and hatred in our country and city's. you can't change history, get over yourselves

It causes more offence to totally eradicate a countries history and culture. History is history, good or bad. We learn either way. To silence any group of individual protecting their history and culture I s equally as racist and oppressive.

All our monuments should be protected! It’s a disgrace that anyone should be allowed to deface them or demand they be taken down !! It’s our history and it should always be protected, otherwise how will future generations learn about Sunderland!!

Actions and opinions of the few should not dictate the world, if at first our statues and monuments are removed, what is there to look back on and learn from history? Do we destroy literature and history books that reference colonisation and history? This will be a result of bowing to ideological extremism, keep the peoples right to democracy, where the will of the majority outweighs the wants of the few.

I am against the removal/vandalism of monuments. These are part of our heritage we can’t just erase them. These are reminders of what what happened then and when we look at them now it should remind us of what needs to happen now and in the future with regards to change and positive attitudes and actions.
