History should be preserved for future generations. You can’t judge people of the past, they were people of their time not ours!

Protect history, don't give in to the mob - I don't want Sir Winston Churchill's monument to be replace d with a statue of the drug dealer whose virtues include only being accidental killed by an overzealous policeman.

To remove any part of the history of Sunderland will be an utter disgrace. If this situation is allowed to proceed by these bandwagon jumpers, then we'll be locked up for what we're thinking next. It's gone too far now and time to put a stop to it all. I for one will not tolerate these anarchists.

Ps. I am a toon fan but will stand shoulder to shoulder with my Sunderland neighbors to protect any statue in Sunderland. Actually I'm just waiting for some Marxist nut job to call for the removal of the shearer statue outside st James park because he wanted les ferdinands number 9 shirt before he signed. Send them packing with a good old English boot up the arse.

So if people want statues of are history removed because they don't like or agree with what they stand for let's have a democratic vote on a national level

The statues are an important role in teaching our children how previous generations lived and thought regarding their actions. Regardless of what some might think of the people memorialized in these works of art, they are NOT for a minority to judge if they remain or not. If any council remove a single statue on behalf of a minority of leftist facists for simple appeasement (notice how councils were perfectly happy to keep the statues until the current climate ? ) they will find more people deserting them at the ballot box and realise the backlash they were given for ignoring brexit was a drop in the ocean.

No living white person has been a slave owner. No living black person has been a slave in this country. Time to move on. Respect our heritage.

We cannot change the past only the future So monuments already erected should be preserved but it is important that we are educated to improve all lives in the future regardless of colour or nationality
