The council confirmed today that they will keep the monuments in place and increase security around our heritage sites. It has been an exhausting road to get here but we finally have the result we fought for. Keep an eye on our local squares because we must make sure these …

Across the country we have seen historic monuments being attacked and torn down.

We believe that the historic monuments of Sunderland must be protected and must not be allowed to be removed by the mob.

Sunderland has a long, proud history and our historic monuments reflect this. These include monuments remembering our proud military history, as well as people who have shaped our city.

We call on Sunderland Council to protect our historic monuments, to reject any calls to remove them and to ensure that mobs do not destroy them.

The climb toward one hundred names is exhausting but necessary because silence is exactly what they want. Please push this out into your own networks right now before we lose our momentum.

Sunderland has lost enough of its precious heritage due to misguided Council decisions since World War Two. Please do not jump on the politically correct band wagon by removing any of our statues, whoever they commemorate.

We can all learn from the past, but not if it becomes 'erased' or hidden from us. Councils must continue to acknowledge our local heritage in its entirety. They must not entertain calls to remove our monuments, which should also be protected from any threat of vandalism.

Sunderland’s statues represent its history and formation as a city. And they should be a focal point of acknowledgment to the good and bad of of it- allowing us to use the past to shape a better future. If you remove them- we lose that opportunity.

We in Sunderland value our historical monuments and our street names we do not take kindly to the cities assets being put on to some Draconian far left vandalism hit list. Thank you for your consideration in regard to this matter.

Pulling statues etc down is similar to Hitler burning books in an effort to change history. Surely it would be better to educate people about our past so these kind of things will not be able to happen again. We cannot change what happened, let's prepare for the future.

Our proud City's memorials and statues are a part of our identity and history and should be protected at all costs. History, regardless of how upsetting can't be changed. However it can be a catalyst for education of how we live in much different times.
