Protect Student Welfare (Barristers)

Having in person exams raises very many concerns from the student body such as how exams shall be administered, the lack of realistic choice in the consent form, the issue of standardization if persons with underlying medical conditions are examined differently than others and others raised by my colleagues

The immediate change of the exam dates is an inconvenience on many levels. For example for me on a personal level; 1. I had scheduled to do other exams on the dates given. 2. To access campus for the selected dates is a high expense especially because it is only for the exam period after which I’ll need to return home 3. My health has not been in the best place to allow for physical interactions

The exams being changed last minute is very inconsiderate because at the beginning of the semester it was communicated otherwise. The school should stick to their original means because it would inconvenience most if not all of us.

Change of the mode of exam administration will really be detrimental to most if not all of us. The same should have been communicated earlier.

You cannot change things last minute! In addition to this, you're putting the student's lives and that of their loved ones at home at risk as we are in the middle of a pandemic!

As an individual with asthma and frequent lung infections it's not only a health risk to me but to my 6 year old sister who has epilepsy. Doing the exams next time they are offered is not fair. I'm being pushed to put my health and that of my family at risk for no logical reason

As an international student, I am adversely affected by this decision as I have to incur alot of costs to sit this exams physically. I will have to pay for a COVID test before I'm allowed to leave the country, I will have to look for accommodation that is willing to let me pay rent for three weeks only (which is actually more expensive in many places), I am at a higher risk of catching the virus as I am traveling back and forth for these exams. More so at the end of the exam period, I have to go back home seeing that the second semester is online, meaning that I have to take another test before traveling back home at my own cost or I will not be allowed to go back by my home government. I request that we continue with our first semester exams as open book as we had been prepared for along with the mode of teaching we were given and resume with the closed book exams with the second semester onwards. This would be fair to us students especially the fact that we were not taken into consideration when this decision was made.

There are multiple things wrong with this decision: 1. No consultation of the student body in regards to the changed nature of exams (closed book instead of open book) 2. No consideration of the student's times and schedules. For example, a lot of us had planned certain activities- professional and otherwise during our scheduled breaks as per the school appointed timetables as well as other seminars and activities to attend on the days we had free during the exams. As a result of this random shift, we have no certainty of time for any of our programmed activities which is a major inconvenience to us all. 3. A lack of consideration for international students and students with existing health conditions or those with families with existing health conditions. This is because exempting them from these current exams will lead to them having to do the exams in another examination period which is an unfairly determined decision. And if the exams for these students are administered online and open book, this will lead to a lack of uniformity in general exam administration. My request is that we complete the previously allocated open book, online exams as planned and thereafter, do the second-semester classes and exams in a closed book and face to face format- if the school would like to. We entered the entire semester with the idea that all our tests and examinations would be done open book and hearing a change of formatting this close to exams is truly detrimental to all of us.

This is ambush at the highest level and certainly not equitable!!!!!

I will be unable to physically sit for the exams as directed with the admin. I was , however , comfortable with the previous decision to do exams from home. This had created a legitimate expectation to the students that the admin would not change the examination timetable.

The change to the timetable does not take into account our circumstances through the semester to date and as made without consulting the parties affected the most. We the students

I think it would be unfair to subject us to the high risk of contracting COVID-19 just for the sake of an examination. While Universities all over the world are closing dupe to massive spikes in casesseen shortly after reopening.

Let the teaching method be the same as the mode of assessment method.

I believe that the physical exams are unfavourable to us as students and go abasing common sense. the teaching method has been changed i.e. online learning therefore it does not make to have the same exam method. Also, I think the possibility of physical exams ought to have been communicated to us early so we act accordingly. We as students of strathmore university who are adversely affected by this decision ask for it to be reviewed and rectified. Thanks
