Exeter schools need to take mental health, well being and inclusivity serious. They need more counselors not No counselors!

The school counselors were such an important part of my education at EUHS. There is so much happening in the world, the time to cut counselor positions is not now. Please rethink your decision and the impact you are having on your community.

So disappointed in our school district. It obvious this decision is made by administrators that are not at the school site to see how invaluable our counselors are to our students.

Has an alumni of Exeter Union high school, I massively benefitted from having counsellors throughout my high school career. I can’t imagine kids having to go through the intense and stressful years of high school without guidance counsellors. I strongly encourage the district to reconsider this decision in order to put students experience, wellbeing, and learning environment first.

Please consider what is best for the students, both the ambitious as well as the many troubled situations…

Taking away student counselors would be detrimental to these kids. They need support systems within the school and without the counselors they will struggle, I’m sadden to hear about this as a former EUHS student.

The students NEEDS their counselors! This is an injustice to the students and the kind hearted and attentive counselors who have seen hundreds of kids through high school.

Keep decisions student-centered! The future of students, families and the community is at risk if counseling positions are eliminated. High quality counseling is a critical and necessary support that every student deserves. Educational equity and access is in jeopardy if counseling positions are cut.

Save the counselors. They are 100% valuable to the students and the core of holding EUHS together.

Seems cuts can be made elsewhere, considering termination of school counselors (a critical mental health resource) is just silly don’t ya think ?

The counselors play a huge role in EUHS. School is not just a place for academics, it is a place of community. Taking away the most supportive and helpful people on campus is going to have a major affect on students. Personally, the counselors have been the only people to reach out, check in, and make sure everything is going well not only in school but outside of school. They go above and beyond each day to show up for the students on campus. By removing counselors jobs, it will create a huge negative impact on EUHS and its community. I hope the board truly understands what they are doing and see what they are doing to EUHS.

I’m currently a senior at this school, and some of the hardest moments of my life happened here. During those times, the counselors were the first people who stepped in, took me under their wing, and truly supported me. They were exactly who I needed when I felt overwhelmed and unsure. Taking away or reducing this role risks removing that same support for students who need it most. I truly hope the board can find it in their hearts to listen to our voices and hear our pleas. As a close-knit community, the best thing we can do is stand together and support one another. We are the Exeter Unified School District—yet decisions like this, where students feel unheard, do not reflect unity. Let’s bring that unification back.

We need counselors. They are essential for supporting students’ mental health and well-being, and students deserve access to that care and guidance. The counselors at EUHS have consistently shown up for students and provided meaningful support. It isn’t right that their positions are being threatened. When we invest in counselors, we invest in healthier students and a stronger community. We love you, Mrs. Montes ❤️
