The State of Maine has a precarious relationship with the Wabanaki Tribes and with the environmental well-being of the state and surrounding waters and areas. Developing on undeveloped island land when a developed island nearby is readily available would be an egregious error that could potentially set back Tribal relations and climate resiliency. In short, this deal would cause much pain for little gain, with even less logic supporting it.

If people want to protect and repair the climate, it is imperative to preserve the undeveloped spaces we have left. No development on Sears Island will *improve* the climate predicament. It will only make it worse.

There is no difference between the energy companies who want to develop Sears Island and Exxon Mobil. This is a cash play, plain and simple. It will do nothing to mitigate climate change. Why must the natural environment be sacrificed to supposedly save the natural environment? Simply because it is cheaper for investors. Shame on Audubon Maine and other environmental groups abdicating their responsibilities to save our ecosystems. I beg that they do some basic analysis to realize the harm they are facilitating. Once developed, it is lost forever. For what? They cannot answer because they do not know. The least dense, most costly, damage intensive, lowest efficiency form of renewable energy. More money for energy companies, plain and simple.

Conservation of natural areas in Maine has never been more important than it is right now. Wild spaces have immeasurable value for humans, wildlife, ecosystem health, carbon sequestration. Stop tearing down the places that make Maine so special in the name of 'economic development.' Humans are infinitely creative, which means you can find a way to increase clean energy without destroying Sears Island.

There's no reason to destroy such an ecologically rich and historically important place as Sears Island. Especially when an easier and cheaper alternative exists.
