Protect Rural Farnham

The world is going mad everything getting torn down sometimes rebuilt ut wheres all the great places that should be left for looking back & reminiscing aswell as being part of the heritage x

The town and its green spaces are slowly being destroyed .

Prioritising roads over countryside is a stupid thing to do given the climate crisis… better alternatives must be found!

Don't let more beautiful countryside be destroyed for more cars. There needs to a proper solution rather than building more roads and encouraging more cars!

We need to protect this beautiful countryside and it’s inhabitants. A western bypass would be a travesty.

I am against destroying natural woodlands!

Please don’t take away our beautiful countryside

This simply can't go ahead! Destroying areas of stunning natural beauty, habitats for wildlife and trees that have been around for hundreds of years to just make way for roads defies logic!

Building more roads attracts more traffic, more traffic creates more pollution, this will pose a huge threat to the invaluable ecological balance Farnham has within its ancient rural areas. The Old park needs to be preserved and protected for future generations. Our woodlands are home to thriving wildlife and a complex biodiversity that we not only want to maintain, but that our future depends on in our fight against climate change. We are losing vast amounts of green space to housing developments already, we must not sacrifice anymore of it, but instead allow it to flourish. This rural areas of Farnham are integral to the mental well being of its community and the many visitors to it. Better solutions need to be explored to solve the traffic and pollution issues in this town.

I’m not a NIMBY protestor, just think make what is already there work, then think about new options.

Invest in more public transport, not more roads for household cars.

Surely we are not really proposing a solution to town traffic in this day and age through creation of a bypass. This would be devastating to the countryside and also unnecessary when other cheaper and greener traffic easing measures should be explored first; setting speed limits through the town centre so it is always the slowest through route (bypass should always be the first option), creating better and more regular bus routes to town, creating cycle and walking routes through town and from Hale and Wrecclesham, and general encouragement of people to walk not use cars. Creating a bypass runs counter to that and the carbon neutral intent of government and would be a horrible loss for everyone.

1. Environmental Impact - If talking about air quality, being future focussed, aligning with government net zero emissions targets and a greener future then surely the environmental impact of these decisions have to be the top priority. Building a Western Bypass would not only be catastrophic for local countryside and wildlife, but it would also incentivise car use. 2. Increases traffic - It’s well documented that building roads increases traffic demand. A behavioural change is needed not another road. 3. Walking - One attraction of Farnham is it’s wonderful countryside. The Western Bypass would destroy many walks in the surrounding area, including the hugely popular St Swithun’s Way. 4. Cost - the cost of a Western Bypass would be astronomical and that money could certainly be put to a much better use.
