The City of Oakland has put the cart before the horse in approving a Design Review of new construction without parking. The proposed project would demolish the building at 2080 Mountain Blvd. (housing the Montclair Rug Gallery) and its adjacent parking lot (of 20 spaces) and replace the entire footprint with a 23,121'sq, 3 story building with large retail spaces on ground floor (think several, and each larger than in the vacant Raimondi's building at Mountain and LaSalle), offices on second floor and a restaurant on the third floor at a height that would eclipse all light from the neighboring businesses: Montclair 1 hour Photo, Melt Massage and Miller & Company rendering access to these local businesses into a dark alleyway. Parking is already precious as it is in Montclair and so is protecting our local, small-businesses that keep Montclair the Village that it is. Join us by signing our petition. We appreciate your support!
