Protect Our Children's Eyes

This petition is an expression of, and desire for, the restitution of a community standard which respects a child's period of latency from invasive visual forms of sexualization present in the display of certain magazines.
Although it is certainly true that parents are the primary educators of their children they act within a social environment and must rely on the community, and an atmosphere of good will and love, in order raise children to become good citizens, that will in time contribute to the common wealth.
The visual language of sexual provocation is an act of violence when directed to children. It damages normative psychological development as it aims to trigger reactions beyond the years of the viewer. It fails to respect both commonly held pathways to a child's educational formation and the parents' right to choose what a child ingests.
This petition requests that the Barry's Bay and area grocers who provide a necessary service in the feeding of the community, likewise respect he community's efforts in raising children in a non-hostile environment. We request that magazines and tabloids which push "sex" content of any kind, visually or verbally, be removed from common view as it is an affront to common decency, fails to respect a child's period of latency, and attempts to sexualize what should be a pleasant jaunt into our friendly neighbourhood grocery store.
Respect our children. Get our business.
