By definition, hydroponics cannot be organic because the growing medium is entirely artificial and does not contain the wide spectrum of organisms and detritus found in a natural or an organically farmed soil.
As usual, the USDA is protecting the industries that pay it off, not the consumers it should protect.

Hydroponic growing is not organic, and should not be allowed to be labelled organic. Furthermore, hydroponically grown food needs to be labelled as such. Consumers have a right to know how their produce is grown.

It is a TOTAL TRAVESTY that the National Organic Standards Board was/is infiltrated by Big Ag such as Driscoll and Organic Valley representatives. The NOSB states in their bylaws that organic food must be grown in SOIL. This makes the decision to allow hydroponics as organic ILLEGAL!!!
