Protect Mt. Zion

Don't pave over our history.

Our history establishes our future - we must understand and protect our history.

Please please please consider this area sacred. It is so important to protect our heritage. There are so many layers of valuable history in this particular view shed. Dinosaur fossils, Early Geologic rock formations, Native American tribe route, Traders, Early Colonial farmers, Civil War battles and the saving of men in Mt Zion Church staged as a hospital. The natural history is rich with old "wolf" trees, important habitat for migrating butterflies and birds. We must value these places for their ability to clean air and water, provide habitat, offer educational opportunities about cultural history and natural history and recreation. These spaces are as important as the built environment if not more so. We are quickly losing any sense of balance. Please consider the present built environment east of Mt Zion Church as the last. If anything the few fields left to the east should be expanded and protected for the many houses that have already been built. It is important to protect an equal or greater percentage of space that can provide for walking in nature, growing food, breathing clean air and filtering water that is healthy. In this time of "social distancing" we need to think more than ever about having space for people to get outside in uncrowded spaces and we may well be looking at the need to grow all or a great deal of our food crops close to population clusters. This was thought about in earlier plans and now more than ever it is becoming evident that it is not something to take lightly.

This area is hallowed ground -the church is wonderful and the adjacent cemetery is sacred. No development necessary or warranted.

Not only would this development devastate a historic site, to which substantial care has been given to preserve, you are desecrating a historic church site without concern for the damage done. For shame for even considering this development.

This area is under increased threat from developers. We must preserve and protect our historical areas!

Please preserve our history.

The Battle of Aldie was the largest cavalry battle in North America. Our heritage and historic sites should be protected, because once developed it is lost forever. Say NO to developing this property!

I am opposed to development around the Mt Zion church site this is historic ground and needs to be saved for future generations.

There are other parcels of non-historical land to build on!! This is a travesty and a disgrace of history!! Shame on Loudoun county for even letting this historical site getting put on a docket for housing development!!! SMDH

Mt. Zion church and battlefield are an important part of our unique history here in Northern Virginia. Once lost, it can never be reclaimed. We have to look ahead and preserve our past for succeeding generations.

It is extremely important and vital that we protect the viewshed of Mt. Zion Church and its historic Cemetery. I have conducted Mosby bus tours for over 20 years. The July 6, 1864 fight between Mosby's Rangers against the Second Massachusetts Cavalry and the Thirteenth New York Cavalry is the most pristine battlefield and interpreted site in Loundoun County! We should and must protect this valuable resource! If I can help in any way please let me know!

I also have a plot in the cemetery for my family at some future date. Development around the church should be discouraged. We are losing way too much of our history in Va. by over development.

I strongly urge that the Loudoun County planning and supervisory folks think seriously about what would amount to desecration should such a development be allowed to proceed.

Over the last 30 years I have watched unbridled development destroy farms, historic areas, and green space. There are places where a development won't impact the scenery and the history of northern Virginia. But putting one more development on top of one less historic site just cheapens the whole area and makes it less livable.
