Help us protect the springs in Jensen Canyon, Grover, Wyoming. In 1860, James Jensen arrived in Afton and was granted a homestead on February 23, 1895. The springs in this canyon were adjudicated in 1896 by the Wyoming State Engineers office to the Jensens meaning the rights to the springs on undisposed federal land were granted to the Jensens. James' son Lorenzo was granted a homestead next to his father on June 1, 1914. The lands of both James and Lorenzo have remained in the hands of the family since they first arrived in 1860. In 1974 the local forest service agreed to eliminate Jensen Canyon from the Grover-Blaney cattle and horse grazing allotment in order to create a wildlife refuge for elk, moose, deer, and other game at the request of the Jensen family. This agreement, included an understanding that the clean water flow supplying 4 families, sourced from the springs in this canyon, would not be interrupted. In 2008 the forest service decided to add Jensen Canyon back into the allotment thus taking this wild preserve and fresh water from many and granting the area to 20 head of cattle. Please support us in returning the standing of Jensen Canyon, Wyoming to a wildlife refuge and also eliminate the destruction of the Jensen Canyon Springs by the cattle currently allowed to stomp through the canyon and the springs unabated.
