We, the undersigned, petition the Governor of the Great State of SC to take executive action or direct legislators to protect young, innocent, vulnerable children visiting taxpayer funded libraries from vile, explicit, destructive materials. WV and other states have already taken bold steps to protect children. Don’t let SC be last on this critical matter. The exemption below MUST BE REMOVED. SC taxpayer supported libraries have obscene books which exposes young impressionable minds to sexual damaging content inappropriate for minors. As Governor and the chief enforcement officer of this state, the leader of this state, please protect our children.

SC State law …SECTION 16-15-385. Disseminating harmful material to minors and exhibiting harmful performance to minor defined; defenses; penalties.

(C) Except as provided in item of this subsection, mistake of age is not a defense to a prosecution under this section. It is an affirmative defense under this section that:

(2) One of the exceptions to this bill is: the defendant was a school, church, museum, public, school, college, or university library, government agency, medical clinic, or hospital carrying out its legitimate function, or an employee or agent of such an organization acting in that capacity and carrying out a legitimate duty of his employment.

If "parents" want to expose their kids to porn, tell them to go to the nearest book store and pay for it. My tax dollars should not be funding it. This is not hard Governor.

I have grandchildren whom I feel need protection against sexual predators. I never thought I would see the day that I would have to protect them against pornography in the library.

I wholeheartedly support the removal of obscene materials from access to minors. These materials must be sequestered away from minors (children's section) and only be accessed by persons 18 years old or older.

We only get one shot to teach our children well and as we see fit. Any material about sexual matters or gender is up to the parents, not the public domain.

I was violated at the age of eight from pornography that was basically cartoons that were naked and doing adult sexual acts this profoundly confused me as a young girl. Should never be allowed in a home much less a publicly funded library I compare it to a type of mental rape

I used to show Schindler’s List to seniors WITH parent permission letters on file. What students can check out of public and school libraries at much younger ages now is much worse!
