The Brd of Aldermen still have time to slow down their rush to hand the Hermann Suites Apartment developers a blank check to alter Hermann's course from a tourist destination to a low-rent, low-wage dormitory. Hermann's economy is based on tourism, not on industry and frieght handling. We would not benefit from a meat slaughter or meat rendering plant any more than we would from becoming an Amazon warehouse site. Hermann sells charm and get-away weekends to overworked city dwellers and retirees. Don't slay the goose that lays the golden egg.

Hermann residents/citizens have not been given a seat at the table regarding projects like this proposed apartment complex and Hermann's involvement with the Montgomery Co. Port Authority. And we will continue to be shut out of these discussions if we don't demand that Mayor Cox and the BoA listen to the voices of those who put them in office and whose taxes fund their budgets. They seem to have forgotten they answer to many more individuals than just the business leaders they confer and strategize with on multiple occasions, while only allowing residents a few perfunctory minutes to speak at BoA meetings while barring dialogue of any kind. Let's remind them how democracy in a healthy city government is supposed to work.

Hermann needs owner occupied homes, not rentals. We need to attract families, not build apartments in a dam inundation zone.
