Flagler County is the only coastal county in the State of Florida without an agreed upon and funded beach management plan.

While a well-intended effort to establish a plan and funding mechanism has been lead by Flagler County, it has not garnered the support of all parties necessary to enact it.

Years of tropical storms have caused critical erosion to much of the coastline. Our beaches are the most vital natural asset this region has and is a primary driver of economic activity. It is vital that we have a plan to renourish portions of the beach in need of refortifying and have the means to protect it via regular maintenance moving forward.

Therefore, we the undersigned, respectfully ask our elected officials from the federal, state, and local levels to work together to finalize a beach management plan before the end of the calendar year.

We make no demands regarding the specifics of the plan. We do ask for accountability, and transparency from all parties. The community will be engaged throughout the process, with their input the most important factor in the outcome. We expect our elected officials to exhaust all available means to fund the plan without raising taxes on residents.

If there is a need to raise taxes, we expect to see documented proof that Flagler County has exhausted all other funding options, is running country government with no waste, and therefore needs to raise funds via additional taxation. We strongly believe that this option should only be proposed as a last resort.
