The decision taken by the majority of Co.
Clare's County Councillors in relation to commercial rates hike of 11% has the potential to destroy
the Town of Ennis. This anti business and economically disastrous decision has to
be resisted and over turned. The fact that the majority of Councillors who
voted in favour of this regressive raise in commercial rates has to be examined
carefully and the suitability of some of these Councillors to vote in matters
concerning Ennis Town has to be questioned. Councillors who have little or
nothing to do with Ennis Town and are not in business or
have never had a business are in my opinion unsuitable and out of
touch in relation to modern day business and economic decisions concerning
Ennis Town . I am calling for each Councillor
that voted for the increase to make a statement explaining his/her
decision that potentially could destroy many Ennis based businesses and their
employees employment. Critical
decisions taken in Government a decade ago destroyed "Our Country",
we cannot allow similar mistakes to destroy "Our Town". Councillors need to change
their decision or we need to change the Councillors.

As a rate payer. I totally call on each councillor that voted to let us know why. Ennis businesses are struggling to pay their existing rates demands and the majority are in arrears. So increasing them makes no sense only causes more stress and frustration.
My understanding that rate were inflated and were due to be reduced not increased. We employ 75 staff and will look to make savings if the rates are increased, This will be by reducing staff numbers to make the savings to pay the increase in rates.
I think it's an absolute disgrace they're trying to increase the rates. There are absolutely no incentives to open up or run a small business as it is?!? I don't understand the logic or mentality in any of it. There's no support or encouragement for small business owners in this town.
Reverse the decision it is anti local business and will drive business to the wall and then everybody will travel the motorway to Galway or Limerick. Council need to wake up and realise they are competing with Galway & Limerick. Start working with business and not against them
As a shop owner in Ennis i feel rates should be reduced not increased as we are struggling to keep our business open,we need the the support of the council not being targeted as the soft touch we always were percieved to be in the boom.
That's unbelievable and scary stuff what are these people thinkin'

Tax a business based on its turn over, it's not all to do with Square ft. It's obvious some businesses are going very well, and some not so well. The bigger stores Tesco,Lidl,Aldi, Dunnes. Let them pay. Not the smaller businesses. Everyone pay their share.
