Protect African Values in Nigeria: Support the Digital Content Ethics and Modesty Bill

Too many digital platforms today are flooded with content that promotes nudity, vulgar language, and behavior that goes against African values and modesty.
Our children and younger generations are watching — and unless we act, we risk losing our identity, culture, and moral foundation.
This petition calls on the National Assembly and cultural institutions to support a bill that will require content creators to include ethical disclaimers before posting any content that involves:
- Exposure of the body or sexually suggestive content,
- Profanity or foul language,
- Promotion of conduct that disrespects African tradition and moral decency.
We are not against creativity or freedom of expression — we are calling for responsibility and accountability.
Every creator must help guide our youth, not mislead them.
By signing this petition, you're saying:
“I believe in protecting African culture, promoting modesty, and ensuring digital content reflects good morals.”
Summary of the Proposed Bill
Title: Ethical Digital Content and Cultural Integrity Bill
Key Highlights:
1. Ethical Disclaimers Required:
All digital content that contains nudity, vulgar language, or promotes behavior that goes against modesty must begin with a disclaimer that:
- Warns viewers about the nature of the content,
- States that it does not reflect African moral or cultural values,
- Advises younger viewers or parents to exercise caution.
2. Protecting Youth and Public Morality:
The bill aims to prevent moral decay in society by ensuring that content creators distinguish between entertainment and real-life values, especially for younger viewers.
3. Promotion of African Culture and Modesty:
Creators are encouraged to occasionally produce content that promotes good behavior, respect, modest dressing, ethical conduct, and African pride.
4. Penalties for Non-Compliance:
Repeat violators may face:
- Warnings,
- Takedowns or demonetization of content,
- Fines or suspension for spreading indecent or misleading content without a disclaimer.
5. Oversight:
A Digital Content Ethics Council will be created to monitor, sensitize, and enforce the provisions of this bill.
Call to Action:
We urge lawmakers, cultural leaders, parents, and every concerned citizen to support this bill and help reset the moral compass of our media.
Sign, share, and speak up — let's protect our culture before it's too late.
