I just saw the news that the bill is moving forward and I have to say I am floored because this actually worked. It is honestly wild that we got this done but we still need to keep our eyes on the legislature to make sure they do not backtrack …

To the Honourable the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled:

The petition of the undersigned anglers and hunters states that:

Conservation and public safety are essential aspects of a person’s right to hunt and fish, and to ensuring the long-term protection of fish, wildlife and their habitat, therefore;

Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House call bill M211 THE HUNTING AND FISHING HERITAGE AMENDMENT ACT, 2018 for second reading and debate by this 41st Parliament.

Dated 11th day of April, 2018.

Updates

April 5, 2018

Twenty five hundred signatures is honestly way more than I ever imagined when I first tapped out this idea on my phone. It is wild to see so many people actually care about this heritage stuff because sometimes it feels like we are just shouting into the void up here.

I was just checking the counter and we are honestly getting so near that one thousand mark which feels like a huge mountain to climb sometimes especially when you think about how busy everyone is these days. If anyone has a spare minute to slide this link onto their social media feeds today it would really help us get over this current hump before the legislature starts looking at the schedule again.

Please listen to the science. It overwhelmingly supports hunting as a management tool. I've been to BC on three outfitted hunts. And I would estimate that I have spent more towards wildlife conservation than 99.9% of encounters will ever spend.

Hunting in BC is a valuable part of our family’s heritage and we’re passing the lessons and traditions that come with it along to our children. It’s important we keep hunting and fishing open to law abiding citizens of British Columbia. Thank you.

Hunting is a way of life for many northern communities. We have been getting our food for our families by hunting for generations. Please don't take away our freedom of providing for our families. It's not about the trophy's. Its about food.

I do not believe people who haven’t hunted or fished in their lives or been in the wilderness have the right to influence people who do all those activities. Also the people who live in those areas must deal with unkept animals compared to where they are managed.

Conservation through scientific based methods and hunters/fishers/and other paying sports enthusisiasts dollars are the future for wildlife and wild lands. Support and promote bill M211 The Hunting and Fishing Heritage Amendment Act 2018.

The hunting industry is responsible for wildlife protection and funds the research necessary for sustainable resource use. The economic impact on the Provence is positive and many British Columbian residents benefit from sustainable use hunting.

I support conservation and buy my fishing lisence and tags every year , even when my favourite fishing spots are closed down ... but I have just had to cancel our holiday plans due to yet another closer.... I would be okay with this if all Canadians were affected by these closers . Really feeling the racial prejudice against white people ... even though it seems we are not allowed to say or feel anything about it. Our dollars are paying for conservation and I’m happy and proud to do so. Plus I love to fish, love eating fish, like to put a few in the freezer to enjoy over the winter... But never keep more than I will consume . As for hunting , I think moose hunting should be completely closed for cow and calves for all Canadians to help with the populations. I myself gave up hunting for camera hunting, although I am not against responsible hunting. But something needs to be done about our declining moose populations.

For the sake of conservation/wildlife consider science based management instead of public opinion.
