FACTS:
Horrendous statistics about the high level of violence occurring in our beloved country, the United States of America.
The total annual financial cost for the USA due to the disastrous effects of violence is 120 billion dollars.
Can anyone "quote statistics" or "count dollars" for the emotional pain and anguish of family and community members, who have lost loved ones?

SAMPLE RESOLUTION
PURPOSE:
ALLOW OUR YOUNGSTERS TO IMPLEMENT THE SEASON FOR NONVIOLENCE ON SCHOOL GROUNDS WITH EXTRACURRICULAR CLUB ACTIVITIES
WHEREAS, the many forms of violence take a terrible physical, mental, emotional, and financial toll on society; and
WHEREAS, education is the best way to bring about positive changes in behavior and attitudes, be it
RESOLVED, that the Season for Nonviolence, a national campaign held January 30th to April 4th, the assassination dates for Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. respectively, be allowed to be celebrated every year on school grounds with extracurricular club activities and be it.
RESOLVED, that the student council appoint a committee to celebrate this season with weekly themes, such as: treat each other with kindness and compassion, protect our natural resources especially, all animals, eat healthy to avoid obesity, recreate nonviolently. For each week choose a hero of nonviolence for instance: Rosa Parks, Sadako Sasaki (peace cranes)

The feedback I have received from educators reflects a genuine desire to provide students with the tools for peaceful conflict resolution. I am currently reaching out to school board representatives to present the proposed resolution for their consideration.

The signature count is nearing one hundred. Reaching this threshold will provide the necessary gravity when I present our resolution to the school board.

ABOUT TIME schools started focusing on this kind of stuff instead of just test scores. really hope this gets through.
kids need this so much right now. too much bullying happening in schools these days.
Violence is out of control everywhere. Start them young and maybe we can change things for the next gen.
My son would love a club like this. Sounds like a great idea for the after school program.
Teaching kindness is just as important as math or science. Good luck with this.

Giving students opportunities to study, pay attention to and practice non-violence raises the potential for a positive future for the adults the students will become and the future of us all. Bravo!!
