The highway agency confirmed this morning that they approved the installation of the zebra crossing. Construction schedules are currently being finalized and I will monitor the site to ensure the work proceeds as planned.

Hello there, I've been campaigning for a safe crossing between peacemarsh roundabout and the Milton footpath, although the town council are very much on my side, district council & highway agency think differently and don't see a problem.
I would love a zebra crossing on the Mere to Gillingham road as I think the current "island" is too close to the roundabout, too small & not safe enough.
It would be great if children are able to cross this busy road out of Gillingham safely on their way to school or for the crossing to provide safer access from the Cloverfields (etc) side of the roundabout to the Doctors/Dentist or Babygrows nursery.

The volume of support for this crossing has reached a level that the district council can no longer dismiss. I am currently finalizing a formal briefing document to present at the next highway agency planning session.

I live in Marlott Road and frequently see lorries travelling down the B3092 from Mere going too fast to stop at the roundabout, so children have no chance. A lot of boy racers head up towards Mere like it is a racetrack. Measures need to be taken to slow the traffic down on this road making it safe for everyone to cross.
I walk to work at Neal's Yard, right by the area in question. Cars fly through this chicane style section of road and the number of times you see solo children crossing there, who really aren't ready for speeding cars, is quite worrying. Even I, a grown adult, who drives, finds this little strip far too fast!!
This is vital for the welfare of all that need to get to Milton school. That road is very fast and a main route for heavy vehicles. It is a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. A simple crossing would alleviate this.
This would be a massive help to the families of Gillingham, particularly Peacemarsh area. It would also be of huge benefit to elderly people trying to get from one side to the other for the doctors, chemist etc.
A crossing is essential on this road. It will not only enable children to safely get to and from Milton school but also provide a safe crossing to Babygrows Nursery, the Doctors surgery and pharmacy. This crossing would be used by young and old on a stretch of road where drivers often exceed the 30mph speed limit.
Desperately needed so that children and adults can cross safely from one side of an increasingly busy road, to the other, in safety!
Please could we have a zebra crossing at this crossing.

This is a very busy, at times very fast road, despite the 30 mph speed limit. Cars speed down to this roundabout from Gillingham Town Centre and they are on you before you have even got halfway across the road. Very dangerous for young children and a zebra crossing is badly needed.
