Pro-Repo is a community organization in Saugeen Shores that supports hosting a Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) and advocates for environmental stewardship of Canada's used nuclear fuel.

Our support is based on the following guiding principles:

1. We accept the Geo-Study results concluded by the NWMO.

2. We trust in our Nuclear Professionals.

3. We respect that all Saugeen Shores residents and neighbours will continue to live and work within the expected societal norms now and in the future.

4. We appreciate the benefits the Bruce Nuclear Power facility has and continues to provide for our community.

We advocate for:

1. The creation of a post-secondary institutional site (in addition to the Centre of Excellence) within our community that:

a) strategically analyses the effective management of any potential risk associated with a DGR.

b) specializes in researching the benefits and impacts of energy sources throughout history.

2. The creation of an operating agreement & compensatory financial arrangement that:

a) provides those bodies responsible for local governance with an annual impact grant that could (for example) be used for:

  • Improvements to regional roads and bridges for the transportation of used fuel
  • Community transit opportunities
  • Additional requirements needed for our quickly expanding community
b) provides those bodies responsible for local governance with an annual report complete with relevant statistical data which will be:
  • Presented to the community at an open meeting
  • Posted online
c) ensures that all reasonable costs associated with the DGR be expended forever to ensure the safety and security of the used nuclear fuel.

d) ensures that above ground farmland continue to be made available and productive to industry standards outside of the immediately secured perimeter.

e) provides appropriate measures of appeal (to industry standards) for financial and other compensation to displaced residents and non-accepting residents.

I have been talking with neighbors about the long-term stability this project brings to our region. People are starting to see the connection between these new research facilities and the future of our local infrastructure.

Seeing this kind of movement in our community confirms that people truly value the safe future we are building here. I have lived in Saugeen Shores my whole life and it feels right to see so many families backing this path for our home.

Keep the jobs here. We know the industry better than anyone else.

About time we looked at the real stats instead of listening to the fear mongering. This is great for our local economy long term.

Bruce Power keeps this area alive. We have the best engineers in the world working there so I trust them to handle the storage safely.
