Prevention of Chemical Exposure of Students in Williamson County, Tennessee
To: WilliamsonCounty Board of Education,
Pat Anderson, Chairman,
School Board Members,
Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney,
Franklin, TN, April 2, 2013
In light of the negligent and unlawful disregard of product label instructions which has been occurring in our schools – for four years at Oak View Elementary School, and potentially endangering our students daily, we the undersigned residents of the
Williamson County (Tennessee) School District demand that our elected School
Board:
A.) Establish responsibilities, policies, and procedures to ensure that negligent misuse and misapplication of a chemical, as occurred with Virex® Tb at Oak View ElementarySchool, cannot happen again at any of our schools.
B.) Make compliance with all the label instructions of any chemical product used in and around our schools, as required by Federal Law, a stated condition for continued employment in all future contracts with School Board employees at all levels, and a stated requirement for continuance in all future maintenance contracts.
C.) Make failure to report to the School Board a continuing violation of Federal Law by anyone, as regards chemical product use in and around our schools, a reason for immediate termination of employment.
D.) At least annually solicit, consider, and respond to proposals from interested citizens as to how our schools could be healthier, safer, greener, or more economical.
E.) Publish in a timely manner how you have handled these demands.
