I don't understand why they would want to do this. Many students are passionate about these programs and it may be what keeps them up. I am not in any of these but I do know many people who are and many of these students have given up things to be part of this program and I strongly agree that they should not be cut out.

The programs are vital. The tdsb has its flaws, as all achoolboards do, but a huge strength is proving children in the GTA with the opportunity to receive an enriched, heightened education in specialized programs.

I have attended two specialty programs of contrasting focuses. Without a doubt, Claude Watson School for the Arts and the TOPS Program have rapidly changed my life in unimaginable ways. However, the problem the TDSB has is with "equity" and providing equal resource and opportunity to all communities. The flaw in their thinking is the definition of equity: they are not helping everyone to succeed, they are harming many successful students to "balance" the system. There is no reason to do this as the difference between community socioeconomic factors will create “better” or different schools anyway. The result of this is not for "equity", the result simply drives students into other school boards, families to move into other neighbourhoods, destroy the abilities of many successful students, and ruin the educational system of Toronto.

All TDSB students have equal access to specialized programs, therefore, I don’t think the existence of specialized program has any negative influence on equity! As a parent, who cares about our students’ education, I totally disagree about phasing out the specialized program in TDSB. Every student is different and has his/her unique interests, needs and strengths. A healthy successful education system is to provide the appropriate education that best meets the students’ individual needs. Fair competition and varieties will enhance students' motivation, effort, and interest if it allows them to enrol at a school that better suits their preferences. It will improve a school's productivity, leading to better teacher selection and positive outcomes to the education system. In a word, eliminating specialized program can only impair the current TDSB education system and de-motivate our students in their academic achievement.

If it weren’t for my school, I know that I would be as outgoing and expressive as I am. If you take away my school, my opportunities, my friends, my family, my second home. I truly do not know what I would do.

Is this serious? I cannot believe I am actually sitting here typing about why schools for the arts should be kept in place. The arts hold a tremendous importance to so many people and possess valuable lessons that can be applied to all aspects of life. What is the reasoning behind this? Thy are not mandatory and only provide a positive space for children who are all interested in the arts and it knots them together like a woollen cloth. Please, for the sake of humanity, decline this ideology and let there be art. What will be will be.
