What a travesty this would be for our youth to lose these wonderful outlets for creative expression and advancement.

These bright students' time would be wasted in the regular programs. Their parents then have to send them to private schools.

Specialized programs are open to everyone who are interested and potentially good at that program. It is not against equity as it is open to every kid regardless of gender, income, family, culture, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity. We need those special programs to enhance education for those who are talented in some way or another. Equity does not mean everyone has to be totally the same or be educated in the same way. If we want every kid to be the same, we might as well clone people or make robots. We are human beings and each of us are unique. Do not try to kill tailored and excellent educational programs in the name of equity. If every Toronto school can afford excellent specialized program, then great. Reality is it is simply not realistic. We either do not have that much money or that many teachers or staff or resource that can offer high quality specialized educational programs in each TDSB school. Let us face it. Many math teachers at TDSB are not even qualified to teach math class, let alone specialized educational program, to be brutally honest. Our future relies on our next generations including the talented or the creative ones. Let us first nurture them well before we put the future of Canada in their hands. Specialized educational program is an very important part of that effort. Please leave them alone unless we are absolutely sure of the opposite.

I'm so disappointed in the TDSB for doing this, but I'm not entirely surprised. Specialized programs are all some students have to look forward to and taking that away will hurt a lot more people than it would help.

The hard work students put to be surrounded in an environment that suits their needs would be put to waste if specialized programs were to be abolished. How can schools have an EQUAL academic environment when each and every student thinks DIFFERENTLY and have DIFFERENT strengths, and thus turn to these specialized programs to compensate for their needs and desires?

Obviously, having specialized programs in the public schools is very common in the world. These programs are very important for the children who cannot afford private school's tuition but have special talent. TDSB, as the largest school board in North America, should be responsible to keep these existing awesome program and enrich these programs to ensure Canadian’s Education level is still above the average in the world.

Claude Watson Arts Program provides such amazing opportunities for kids, along with all the other specialized programs. Removing these programs would majorly affect so many of Toronto's students.

The special programs can help students focusing on the their talented skills, and benefitted by learning together with other students that have similar skills. The programs is also a talent pool for future Toronto.

The idea of abolishing specialized programs in TDSB is ridiculous. The opportunity for many to pursue their passion through an enriched curriculum should only be accessible for the students that truly appreciate these resources. Removing these restrictions based on skills will only water down the benefits of programs for all of students in TDSB.

unless the education resources are enough for everyone , the competition is inevitable. It is not caused by specialized program. The school board should be practical and focus on the issues they can solve.

My sons benefited greatly from TOPS and Gifted programs. So do many other kids with similar interests. Please keep these programs because we human beings are born differently.

I strongly believe that this is a wrong move for the tdsb to make. While it can be incredibly disappointing to not be accepted to certain programs , it should not be denied to others who have made in. Also what kind of garbage is “these new programs that would be implemented would either be worse in quality or require more funding”?

Why is the TDSB trying to lower the bar on education? Should'nt it be the other way around and try to make the students more prepared for their future, specially the students who have more potentials to achieve more
