Prevent Barratt/Redrow from destroying St Fagans woodland

The communities of St.Fagan’s and Pentrebane have always come together to enjoy and benefit from the ancient woodland and its environmental, cultural and social contribution to individual and community wellbeing. The Future Generations 2025 report to public bodies highlights in its introduction the importance of good health being shaped by wider social and environmental factors. On the Climate and Nature mission, Future Generations challenges public bodies to prioritise climate resilience and nature recovery.
The proposed application by the developer which will destroy this natural resource together with the manner in which their application was made suggests being open and transparent with the local community was not their priority and was driven by wanting the cheapest access possible. If the field currently proposed for housing was so important then it would have been developed first. This application suggests it is about developer profit and not about community need. The health and social needs of the communities should in this instance take priority. We need a place for our children to play, learn about the social and cultural history of the wood, walkers to enjoy nature and come together with their neighbours. Community cohesion is a valuable asset to be cherished and should not be bulldozed just to make life easier for those who have no investment in our community other than their bottom line.
