Dear President Trump: 2020 Determination on Refugee Admissions

We need to keep our country a refugee harbor for the persecuted and the needy

This is against everything this country stands for. We are made richer by the contributions of refugees and immigrants. The world will be less safe, as many generals have noted, by closing our doors, or decreasing the number of refugees.

"An immigrant leaves his homeland to find greener grass. A refugee leaves his homeland because the grass is burning under his feet."

Our strength is in our "many"

This country was built by immigrants, many of whom were refugees from war, famine and other tragedies. It is unconscionable that we would deny entrance to people who are suffering such crises now. We are also bound by treaty to welcome refugees to our country. Reverse this heinous and inhumane policy the Trump Administration is foisting on us.

We need to continue to promote the United States as the "Shining City on a hill" that provides an example to thw world of compassion.

Refugees are a part of our community!

As a first generation American I am grateful that my mother was welcomed to this country for a much better life. As a nation of immigrants, we MUST continue to welcome and help those less fortunate and those escaping oppression. Please let the refugees enter this great country as Lady Liberty has taught us to do.

We are a nation of immigrants and refugees; Lady Liberty stands tall in New York harbor, still, a beacon light of hope for the rest of the world.

President Trump, we urge and encourage you to once again allow refugee families to enter our country as they once did. We ask that you set the number high, as in the past. We, in Rochester, NY, are ready and willing to receive these families who need health care, food, shelter and education. This is the moral obligation of our country. Please open your heart and our doors to receive these families. Thank you .

Please allow 170,000 refugees into our wonderful country so they can build new lives. I have seen first-hand the wonderful work done in Rochester to help them.

I fully support initiatives that empower and uplift newcomers in our communities.

I support refugee resettlement as immigration has always been rich part of our culture and huge boost to our economy.

As a person who migrated here over 50 years ago I welcome those who seek to find a new beginning in these United States.

As citizens and members of the community of Rochester, New York, we stand together to “Welcome the Stranger” and unite our voices as you consider the Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions.

We are extremely fortunate to be born in this country. It brings to mind, had we not been so lucky . . . "There but for the grace of God go I." As Christians we believe that we should share our good fortune with others, that we should lend a helping hand to others, especially to those in such obvious need. There is also a human justice element at play in the sense that much of our nation's wealth has been achieved at the expense of poorer nations through under compensation of foreign labor and their nation's resources, and no compensation for deleterious and disproportionate climate change impacts on poorer countries significantly accelerated by developing countries such as ours.

We all immigrated to this country except for the Native Americans and it is our moral duty to accept people fleeing their countries because of dire circumstances.

United States is a great country that welcomes each and everyone. They welcome me and my new coming generation to have a better future. Please please please let them come in and have a life. From bottom of heart once again thank you to all citizens who welcome us.
