I support Councilmember's Bonin's initiative to use the MainSt. Bus Teminal site for affordable housing - and ask that you add artist support as well. PLACE would be a terrific non-profit to advance such a plan.

I live at the WAV in Ventura, CA and think PLACE is doing a great job with these communities. A PLACE Artists community in Venice would be a wonderful addition to the larger community in that area.

As a full time artist and former staple on the Venice art walk for 8 years it was evident to me years ago that the artists were moving out of Venice. They were systematically priced out of a community that values art and the artist. Through no fault of the town or even the longtime landlords. It is the way of gentrification. Rough part of town, artists move in, they become stake holders but not title holders. Same sex couples come in next and before you know it there is a Starbucks on the corner. The only way to continue to have the vital mix and not a soulless facade is to have the city invest. Properties like the public storage on rose need to have the city purchase it and make work/live studios out of it before Google does. Realizing that the Arts bring more money and sustainable development to a community early on will staunch the march towards big box sterilization.

What gives Venice its flavor are the human beings, artists, musicians that breathe life into its streets. Make it affordable !!!
