Preserving Pharmacy Excellence: A Petition to Acknowledge and Honor Workplace Seniority
To our pharmacy leadership team,
We are writing to address some pressing concerns regarding the current PTO allocation discernment, workload re-distribution, and scheduling practices within our inpatient pharmacy team.
As employees who have been with Froedtert for upwards 15 - 30 years, our group has witnessed firsthand the evolution of our workload and the challenges it presents. Over time, our team has become increasingly busy, with demands that require a certain level of experience and expertise to handle efficiently. This is especially evident during peak as well as off hours and in situations that require quick decision-making and problem-solving skills.
We understand the importance of maintaining a cohesive and flexible team, and appreciate the effort to accommodate everyone's schedule preferences. However, we feel it's crucial to emphasize the significance of seniority in workload distribution and scheduling. Not all of us seek work-life balance in the same manner. Employees who have been with the company longer have not only invested more time and effort into their roles, but have also accumulated valuable experience and knowledge that directly contribute to the smooth functioning of our operations. We have dedicated years to making sacrifices and have previously endured less desirable schedules, or currently maintain them, without complaint in exchange for a personally preferred schedule.
While we fully support the inclusion of less experienced employees and believe in nurturing their growth within our team, we believe it's essential to strike a balance that acknowledges and respects the seniority of long-standing employees. This includes considerations such as prioritizing senior employees for preferred shifts and granting paid time off requests based on seniority whenever possible. Our internal review of multiple Froedtert departments indicates that PTO signup prioritizes seniority above all else.
By recognizing the seniority of your experienced team members, you not only demonstrate appreciation for our dedication and contributions, but also ensure the continued quality of patient care, efficiency of pharmacy operations, superior mentorship and guidance to students, pharmacy and physician residents, and colleagues alike and acknowledge the pivotal role we play in upholding our pharmacy department's standard of excellence that we are known for. It's essential for our team to feel valued and respected given the demanding nature of our work.
Our group would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further and explore solutions that align with both the needs of our clinical teams and the goals of the pharmacy department. Thank you for considering our perspective. We look forward to finding a mutually beneficial resolution.
Best regards,
Long term Froedtert Pharmacist Employees
