San Francisco Parks & Recreation plan to replace the 3-acre Kimbell Field from grass lawn to synthetic turf, using ground tire waste. We are requesting that these plans be halted until September 2010, when the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is due to complete its study on the health and environmental impacts of synthetic turf fields. Please preserve the natural grass lawn at Kimbell Field until we are certain that it is not a public health risk. Thank you.

This petition is sponsored by the Environmental Club of the Jewish Community High School of the Bay (JCHS). Our school is located across the street from Kimball Field and uses it on many occasions including our annual field day, athletic practices and our faculty picnic. After much research and consideration, the JCHS Environmental Club decided to take action by raising awareness about the issue through announcements and this petition.
