Preserve Brunswick- No Neighborhood Rail Yard!
We oppose the proposed 40,000 square foot Amtrak Maintenance Station at 2 Turner St. Brunswick, ME, located between the residential neighborhoods of Bouchard Dr./ Hennessey Ave./Country Lane and Lombard and Tuner Streets. We believe that the harm to the surrounding residential family neighborhoods from such a project will far outweigh the benefits to anyone. It will cause many years of noise, vibration, fumes, and diminished property values. This project will bring no new jobs to Brunswick. Existing Amtrak employees will be relocating from the currently operating Portland Maintenace Facility. NNEPRA and Amtrak will not bring any tax revenue to Brunswick. In fact, your tax dollars are subsidizing this project. We support the expansion of Downeaster service to Brunswick, but we believe there are more appropriate locations for this facility. Please sign the petitioin and join us at the Public Hearing on Thursday 6/23 at 7pm in the Council Chambers at Brunswick Station at 16 Station Avenue to voice our opposition!
