The Lummis Home (El Alisal) is entirely worthy of preservation and landmark status, due to the beauty and significance of the site as well as the contributions of Charles Lummis, who built and lived there.

Preserve this culturally and historically rich structure for generations to come to appreciate "Charles Lummis’ unparalleled contributions to the growth and development of the City of Los Angeles, the country’s emerging national park system, and the influential Arts and Crafts movement, as well as to the preservation of Native American and Mexican/Spanish Southwest culture." To do otherwise would be very short-sighted. Occidental College has a viable plan for preservation and stewardship, so please collaborate/cooperate to realize this goal.

Charles Fletcher Lummis said, "If a man cared really more for his child than for himself, should it not occur to him that the only thing he can do now for that promoted soul is to be worthier...to be a wiser man, a juster man, a tenderer man...a little less timorous of advantage, a little more unswerving in duty..." We Angelenos are the children who benefited from Lummis's vision. What will our children have if you allow Lummis's home and legacy to crumble to the ground?
