In the late 1980s, I conducted part of research for my master's degree in agricultural and extension education at Wilder Forest, spending several months there. The diverse habitat that the Forest encompasses and the facilities that are available for learning on the Forest property are truly remarkable. I was impressed in the 1980s and still am today. This is a true gem of a resource that has been well utilized for benefit of our broader environment as well as the people of Minnesota.

This is a vital habitat that likely took hundreds of years to develop. We need to maintain these portions of forest, for if not, we lose out on the vital ecosystem services they provide and will not be able to regain over several lifetimes.

This is a no-brainer for people, who believe in the potential of a habitable future for the earth and the living creatures we are rapidly driving out of existence. Between people who don't care, a majority, and people who are glad to profit off the destruction of open space and natural resources, a healthy minority, we have a real struggle on our hands.
