We, the undersigned residents of Crescent City, South Putnam County, and Northwest Volusia County respectfully urge you to reconsider the proposed conversion of our full-service Winn-Dixie grocery store into an Aldi location and instead retain it as a full-service grocery store that meets the essential needs of our communities.

Our community is rural, and many of our residents—especially seniors, individuals with limited transportation, and families with young children—rely heavily on the full range of products and services currently offered at our local Winn-Dixie. From a full-service meat counter and bakery to fresh produce, deli prepared food, and household staples, this store is not just a place to shop—it is a cornerstone of our community's health, nutrition, and independence.

Our community has already suffered the loss of our pharmacy, which created a severe hardship for seniors, individuals with medical conditions, and families with limited transportation. Losing our full-service grocery store would compound this burden and jeopardize the health, nutrition, and economic sustainability of our community.

Unlike Aldi, our current Winn-Dixie provides:

  • A full selection of fresh meats, produce, and groceries
  • Access to specialty and name-brand items
  • Services such as a bakery, seafood, prepared hot meals and deli services
  • One-stop shopping for household and dietary needs

The next closest full-service grocery store is 45 to 60 minutes away—a round trip that is simply not manageable for many of our residents, particularly the elderly and those with limited mobility.

Furthermore, the loss of this store would seriously damage our local economy. Without a full-service grocery store, residents will be forced to shop in other communities, taking their spending power with them. This will hurt not only local commerce but also discourage future investment in our community.

Our town deserves access to basic services. We are not asking for special treatment—we are asking for equitable access to the same level of food security and economic opportunity afforded to larger cities. Please help us keep our Winn-Dixie local, full-service, and accessible. Our community depends on it.
