I take issue with the statement "...to achieve this in an open and transparent manner and with the participation of community members". The time to have met with community members was before the schmatic design presentation for DMS at the November 5, 2013, public session of the Board of Education meeting. While I appreciate the many improvements to the school itself, there will be a definite negative impact on community open space of which Rodgers Forge has precious little to spare.

As a taxpayer who funds the Baltimore County schools, I don't appreciate the school board taking my hard earned dollars and using them to blight my neightborhood and street. In effect, this unelected body is ignoring those of us who live here and want to retain the character of the neighborhood and property values. The county is free to do as it wants within the school building. For this, they are accountable to the parents and students. But when it comes to the exterior og Dumbarton Middle School, the BPCS is accountable to the neighborhood at large. We have to LIVE with the architectural and landscaping decisions made by the BPCS, and we are the primary stakeholders in this respect. We are a very strong community; save yourself the headaches and do the right thing now.

It is a space used by the whole community. It would be a shame to lose the greenery.

Architects should be accountable and their schematic plans are necessarily not fixed in stone. In my own work as a school architect, I expect design to be a dynamic process that responds to the community's needs. There does not seem to be a need to fix the bus loop. A creative architect could still incorporate a lobby/learning center within these constraints. This is EARLY, not late in the design phase. There is plenty of time to rework for a solution that works with the site.

This is a walking community and I don't think this plan respects our needs. Our primary concern over the years has been the lack of air conditioning. This plan delays that implementation another 2 years and addresses a bus drop off system that is not a problem.

A retaining wall. That will attract the graffiti artists. With the new clean water act any additional blacktop is taxed. I guess we the taxpayers will get this unneeded annual environmental fee. I would hate to see that rare old live oak tree on Dumbarton Rd taken down after all the major storms it has survived.

Our lovely old trees and the large fields at the schools are a part of what makes Rodgers Forge so wonderful and livable. Please, BCPS, I do not understand why we need to change what wasn't broken to begin with. Upgrade the school, but please leave our beautiful neighborhood trees and space alone!

These are two wonderful schools that use ALL of the fields for activities. In season, it is a rarity to not find ALL the athletic fields in use by our RFES and DMS children.
