Sign our petition and show Gov. Jay Nixon and Missouri legislators that you support state funding of Missouri’s public libraries, and the important services those funds support.
This year Missouri’s governor is withholding money that was budgeted for public libraries serving populations over 40,000. Cass County Public Library's portion amounts to about $70,000. Some of this money is a subsidy for Internet connections and some is for state aid to libraries, which pays for materials and equipment.
What can you do to help? If you would like to urge the governor to release funds needed by public libraries, please consider taking any of these actions: Sign our petition in support, consider writing to Office of Gov. Jay Nixon, P. O. Box 720, Jefferson City, MO 65102, call the governor’s office at 573-751-3222 or go to the website www.governor.mo.gov, click “get involved” and fill out the contact form.
Thank you for helping let the governor know that these funds are important to the library users in Missouri.

We need the many resorces our libraries provide. I am a care giver and cannot get out to travel anymore. The book mobile comes to my neighborhood with wonderful books so I can at lest do my traveling by reading about all the wonderful places I will never see personally. These books help relieve the stress of being mostly house bound. Reading to my husband brings him such pleasure. Please don't take this away from us.
Governor Nixon, As a children's librarian I interact daily with young families in need. Our library is there for them in myriad ways, some that you may not think of. Early literacy is vital for the future of our country, and cutting our budget will directly impact the way that my library contributes to our community. Please reconsider slashing state funding to our libraries. At the very least, please visit libraries and see the vital work that we do. Thank you.
My family has always used public libraries. It is one of the main reasons we are exceptional readers. Public libraries are absolutely essential for our children and adults alike. This is a no-brainer. Release the funds that were budgeted for our local library! Do it now!!
Along with early childhood education, libraries are absolutely vital to the future of our children. Libraries help fight illiteracy as well as providing computers for those who cannot afford them on their own. Some things may be as important as libraries but nothing is more important to people from all walks of life. We need more funding, not less!
Public libraries are essential to all communities, but especially small ones. Please preserve state funding for our public libraries.

As an employee of the library, I am so disappointed that this is considered as something that needs such a major cut. We take cuts every year and this this major for us at the Cass County library.

Cutting library funds disproportionately effects middle and lower classes, who need the computers and are unable to buy books. I have always been a Nixon supporter, but it speaks volumes that sports arenas are funded and libraries cut. Release funds for our public libraries if you do have any concern for people who need the library to pursue their productive future.
