This petition stands for preserving the EXSC 136/137 gymnastics classes offered at BYU. Many students love this class and do not want to see it cancelled after 50 years due to budget cuts and monetary issues. It is one of the most popular physical education classes at BYU and allows existing gymnasts to maintain their skills and prodvides new opportunities to those who have never done gymnastics. BYU has a beautiful facility for these classes, and without them the gym would only be used by 15 gymnasts who are on the team. That seems like a waste of such a great facility. Title IV eliminated the mens gymnastics team, so this is the only opportunity for men to do gymnastics on campus. The goal of the university is to provide new opportunities for growth both physically and mentally. By cancelling theese classes, the school is robbing students of new opportunities and ways to grow. The department claims it is a monetary issue that is making them cancel these classes, a cost of about 15 dollars per student enrolled in th class. But students are willing to pay a materials fee to the department in order to keep these classes on going. Please, help keep gymanstics classes alive! It is a sport so many love and do not want to see end on the campus at BYU.
