As many of you know, Elm Thicket/Northpark has been in the middle of a zoning change war. Our quality of life and in some cases, the structural integrity of our homes are being threatened in the name of “progress” or what it really is – gentrification.
We have an opportunity to collectively raise our voices and let City of Dallas leaders know that we love and want to preserve this neighborhood. This is an opportunity for our voices to be heard. For too many years we have been disenfranchised and our voices silenced. Our opinions have not mattered. Now is the time to speak up, speak loudly and show our love for Elm Thicket/Northpark and to preserve our neighborhood for future generations.
Do not believe the misinformation being communicated from the opposition.
These are the facts:
- Property rights are NOT being taken away
- Property values will NOT decrease
- You will NOT lose generational wealth
- You CAN still remodel your existing home
The builders, developers, and supporters of the "Stop the Zoning" campaign want to erase our history and change the neighborhood to how they want it to look. We must come together to support the community we grew up in and have loved for all these years.

I have lived in this neighborhood for years. Mm husband and I bought our home in this neighborhood, raised our children here. We love this neighborhood and we have no plans to sell. We are asking the city to please preserve our Elm Thicket/Northpark neighborhood. We love living here and no one should be allowed to come in and take what we have work for, or tell us how we should live.
When new residents buy/move into an establishment community it becomes harassment when the new resident engages in tactics to erase a pre established culture, and publicly criticizes the established homeowners vintage home. Harassment in these forms becomes scare tactics.
We love our community, we do no mind updating our community, however these builders are ruining the look of the community by realigning the front of the home to dwarf our current homes. This makes the neighborhood look uneven and bad.
When this same issue came upon our neighborhood my response was that the beauty of walking under the elder statesmen of our community, its trees and going to our local stores, on a street that has a housing history is more than worth saving. The preservation of the love of a neighborhood as community should be sacred to our Dallas society ; a not for sale issue.
I am vehemently against gentrification of this neighborhood. Seniors and working people are being priced out of affordable homes.
This is Historical Neighbor Hood with a lot of love for each other.And we help each other.
My late parents built their home on Webster Ave and savage. I rember when the streets in our neighborhood were unpaved,no grocery stores,only neighborhood grocery stores,when military families lived in barracks in the bottom by Love Field,all airline flights came to Love Field. Elm Thickett was a place of pride,respectibility,respectability, and where we looked after one another and helped each other. Elm Thickett is my legacy and my family's legacy. My parents endured so much to provide for me a warm and safe environment. Developers didn't give a damn about the community now that it's close to everything and the property was increased in value, THEY want to take it away. I THINK NOT,not today,not tomorrow. We will fight,trust and believe this.

I support Elm Thicket’s fight to put zoning protections in place for long-time residents. The City needs to help all neighborhoods with rich African American & Mexican American histories, cultures, & roots with preservation efforts, environmental justice, & housing justice. Outside developers do not care about affordability, diversity, history, or long-time residents’ rights.
