Poway City Council & Mayor Term Limits
Poway voters/residents,
Serving as Mayor or on City Council is not supposed to be lifetime appointment or career – it is an honor to serve.
• Two previous Poway Council Members served for 25 years – that does not benefit Poway or voters and residents – it benefits special interests and developers.
• Since 2016, 79 California cities have instituted Term Limits for City Council Members; in 2022 alone 23 California cities have instituted Term limits, which including Escondido, Oceanside, Vista, San Diego, and many other nearby cities.
• Elections are not Term Limits. Benefits of Term Limits include opening our government to new ideas to solve Poway’s problems, ensuring greater fiscal responsibility, limiting unchecked and unsupervised development, providing Fair and Competitive Elections (ordinary Poway citizens will have the opportunity to run for office instead of only incumbents with large party, developer, and other financial support), giving voters more choices at the ballot box, and providing more people with real-world and real-work experience from all walks of life an opportunity to serve in elected office.
• I have e-mailed and asked the entire Poway City Council to put Term Limits on the next election ballot, and they all rejected my request, so we will work on getting a petition signed to put Term Limits on the next ballot in November 2024.
• 89-100% of CA incumbents won reelection – that’s not popularity – that’s money and special interests talking.
