Residents of Inverurie, and the surrounding areas that use the A96 for commuting will be well aware that the traffic build up is reaching problem proportions during both rush hours.

The local development plan calls for more homes to be built in Inverurie, and this will clearly lead to further congestion. Transport Scotland have already stated in their various reports to the Planning Department that the traffic issues will become worse, but yet new homes are approved before the road infrastructure is improved.

Southbound queues are starting to form in the morning rush hour at the Blackhall Roundabout (up to 1.5 miles of a queue on the worst days). Northbound in the evening the queue is now building before the Thainstone roundabout, and takes approximately 15 minutes to get to the Blackhall roundabout approximately 1.5 miles away.

Work is being done on the Blackhall roundabout that should be complete by June 2014, and while this may help the queues southbound in the morning it will not resolve the evening northbound problem, where the cause is mainly the Port Elphinstone roundabout.

This petition is to request that new home development is delayed until the road junctions are improved, to allow both the A96 commuters to avoid queues, and the residents of Inverurie a way to get onto the A96 without queuing.

This petition is not to stop the new home development - this does bring money and new amenities to the area. Although I should add that developing to the west of Inverurie was monumentally stupid, effectively turning the bypass into a through road, and precipitating these traffic problems.

You can add to the petitions effect by emailing the local MSP christian.allard.msp@scottish.parliment.uk , and also the Inverurie Planning Office ga.planapps@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.

When sufficient support for the petition is achieved I will also contact Alex Salmond with the details as the Gordon District MSP.

Please also share the petition web link to others who may be affected, ask them to do the same. Ask your friends and family to share via Facebook, etc. If we do nothing be very sure that new homes will continue to be built without regard to road capacity.
