Maryland Ave NE: YES for Safety, NO for Road Diet.

I use Maryland Ave NE several times a week and I have strong concerns about reducing the number of traffic lanes. I hope this plan will be reconsidered. Thanks.

H St is already incredibly choked with traffic and will only be more so with the slow moving streetcars increasingly blocking bus traffic. We can not afford to make Maryland Ave into a bottleneck as well or basic errands through NE will become needlessly difficult. No amount of bike lanes will make this pleasant and given that we live in a commercial as well as residential corridor, trucks, buses, and even--gasp--cars packed with groceries will continue to rely on Maryland Ave.

This is crazy to have one lane on Maryland Avenue. It should stay two lanes. I oppose one lane on Maryland Avenue.

I agree with a pilot program first. I have lived at MD and 10th for 7 years and just learned of this project a couple months ago. The other changes that have already been made are having an impact. I am very concerned that the proposed plans would have more negative than positive outcomes.

I agree that safety is paramount but I oppose the road diet unless it is first tested as a pilot to determine actual traffic flows & the impact on neighboring streets. The bike lanes are not as crucial because there are bike lanes on nearby G Street NE, which has lower traffic volume & does not service a bus route.

Put a traffic light in at 7th street and remove the current temporary barriers which are very confusing for many people. Do not reduce the lanes to one in each direction. This is a terrible idea. A traffic light will work.

Parking is already an issue for residents especially with the H St bar scene. I don't see how this plan will make things better for residents

This plan will create more traffic, cause more confusion and make driving in the District even harder, which is likely the objective of the proponents of this plan and the DC Council. The number of people who will be negatively affected by this plan will far outweigh the few bicyclists who will take advantage of it. When the DC government tried this a few years back on Pennsylvania Ave. it was a disaster that the city was ultimately forced to spend thousands of taxpayer money to undo. I expect the same will happen if they try this on Maryland Ave.

Personally I see no advantage in going from 4 lanes to 2 lanes on Maryland AVE., but I do forsee a lot of disadvantages.

Parking is currently an issue and by reducing lanes will only create additional issues especially during emergencies i.e. funerals, emergency vehicles, senior drop-off/pickup, etc. Also, adding bike lanes will only add fuel to the fire..

This ridiculous plan will only make matters worse on Maryland Ave. The bollards are not only ugly, but confusing.
I have seen many instances where drivers turn onto the wrong side of them. Traffic is already a busy problem during rush hours, and it will only be worse if this plan is implemented. Commuters will find themselves blocked by long lines of stopped traffic for the lights. Frustrated, they will blow horns, and of course, their emissions will be much worse than now. Some will seek to find alternative routes on the side streets. There should be no bike lanes, with or without the plan. There is just too much traffic for bike riding to be safe. Riders should use quieter side streets. Finally, I am convinced that this will make Md. Ave. a less desirable address, and thus, property values will fall. Trying to park in front of one's house on the avenue is already difficult; with the plan it will be worse.
The meeting on the 10th was a sham. The destermination of DDOT and our own ANC is that the plan will go forward. Nothing said to the contrary by others seemed to matter to them.

More residents should have been able to give their opinion before a decision was made. We all matter and our opinions are just as valuable as the few who made this decision.
