We, the undersigned, request that the Village of Port Chester enter into a formal agreement with a reputable, non-profit, no-kill, animal shelter such as the Humane Society of Westchester.

We appreciate the hard work that Port Chester's Animal Control Officer currently provides in helping lost and hurt animals in our Village. However, the Police Department has limited resources, and more 24/7 assistance is needed to address the heartbreaking reality of lost, homeless, abandoned and abused animals found in our community. In fact, we believe that a contract with a reputable animal shelter will provide valuable support to the Police Department and help free up time for other critical priorities within our Village.

As part of the arrangement with an animal shelter, it is important that critical services are provided to Port Chester. This list includes but is not limited to:

— 24/7 (including holidays) phone access for help or questions

— 24/7 (including holidays) pick-up of animal(s), medical assessment, and medical treatment as needed

— Advertisement of lost animals to try to find original home

— Assessment of rescued animal’s socialization with people and other animals

— Spay/neutering program

— Appropriate daily exercise and socialization guaranteed while animal is at shelter

— Large audience marketing for all animals available for adoption (including detailed medical and social assessment information)

— No euthanizing except for extreme medical or safety reasons

Thank you.
