I am the person I am today because of the personal relationships with my teachers . Without those connections throughout my time in DTSD my current perspective on life would be much different. They invested their time and energy into my life. I still practice many of their mentoring skills they taught me in my professional role as a clergy member. I still have wonderful relationships with many of my teachers and two of them were even in my wedding. Boundaries are important for both students and teachers. But impassable policies only create a divisive culture of fear.

Absolutely ridiculous, this is an example of a board that is completely out of touch with reality.

Our teachers in some cases are the only role models our students have. One of greatest gifts teachers have to give is the ability to reach that "one" kid and change their life. There are bad actors out there as there is in every walk of life. Punish them.....not the 99.99% of the teachers you are doing the right thing for our kids.

I had many teachers who I had personal relationships with that helped me get through tough times and made me a better person.

The emotional bond for students with teachers is imperative. They are together daily......sometimes the studenthas no one else to confide in.Hence, the student could suffer from abuse or neglect. A guidance counselor does not share that type of bond with the student.

What has happened to, "every child, every day" or the C.O.C.O.A principles we have a 30 minute assembly on every year?

As a student at HHS, I've built some pretty great relationships with my teachers. There are a few teachers who have been there for me over my whole high school career, so it would be hard for me to not ever be able to talk to them about issues I'm having or just tell them about my day. I would be negatively affected by this policy being put in place, along with so many of my classmates.

High school has been one of the darkest times in my life. My senior year when i thought i couldnt get through life anymore let alone school, two teachers reached out and worked together as a team and not only helped me graduate, which i was in danger of noy completing, but also helped me see the light. I wouldnt be where i am today without them.

I think good teachers take a personal interest in their students. I want my child being taught by teachers that care enough to develop a relationship with them. I think sexual contact and inappropriate contact is the exception, not the norm and don't need restrictive policies that hinder education out of fear.

Who proposed this asinine idea ? Student teacher relationships are invaluable as they can foster academic and social success. A genuinely caring mentor can exponentially transform a mediocre-performing student to a straight A student. I can't imagine that the school board would vote for this.

This is ridiculous. It's the relationships that TEACHERS have with the students to ensure TRUST that helps these individuals grow as well as "survive" the public school life.

As a 1977 graduate of Hershey High school I am signing this petition.
The interaction between students, teachers, food service personnel and coaches is an essential to many students. These relationships can be life changing when they are comfortable enough to reach out for help.
The guidance counselor will be overwhelmed and students don't have the daily interactions and relationships with the student. Working with the guidance counselor in 1976/1977 was the worst mistake I ever made.

Students must be able to have meaningful relationships with teachers. Narrowing the interaction by putting in force these rules will end up leaving more kids behind if they are unable to make connections.

Teachers shouldn't be afraid to help students who are struggling. The school should have policies that build trust between students and teachers, not give them one less person to talk to.
