This petition recognizes that the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's , herein referred to as PMEA, Region V Chorus festival was cancelled for Thursday, February 13 through Saturday, February 15. Due to this cancellation, PMEA took away the right of the participants to audition for the All-State Chorus Festival at the Hershey Convention Center from Wednesday, March 26 through Saturday, March 29. This petition and its signers demand that they are given their right to audition for the All-State Festival. PMEA made the decision to take the top three individuals from both Districts 7 and 10 in each voice part to the All-State Festival. This decision refuses to recognize the work, effort, and emotional investment that all of the participants put in. We as the signers demand to be given their opportunity to audition and be given all of the opportunities promised as given by PMEA.

Updates

February 15, 2014

I am currently gathering the names and contact details of our district representatives to demand a formal review of this selection policy. Post the petition link on Facebook and tag the PMEA accounts to keep the pressure on their leadership. Send an email to your local representative explaining why the current selection process is unfair to the students who spent months preparing.

The momentum behind this demand is growing and shows that students deserve a fair chance to audition. Post this link on your Facebook page and text three friends who were impacted by this decision to get them involved today.

For many students, this is their last chance to compete. It's unfair to punish those that worked so hard to try and get to the top. I guarantee you're settling for second best by canceling auditions.

All of the students who were to participate this weekend have placed countless hours of time with their vocal instructors and on their own to ready themselves for this weekend. To deny them this opportunity is simply a poor decision and one that needs to be reconsidered. Allow the students to audition. They do not need to have the entire weekend of festivities to audition. I hope PMEA reconsiders what a disappointing and unfair decision this is for almost all of the students who were to compete this weekend.

Even though I am not part of this competition I still hate the idea of unfair competition. What happened to the idea of a fair chance for everyone? By bypassing the top 3 and not letting anyone else show their talent, they are not succeeding that idea.

This is a disappointment for everyone who tried so hard to audition. There are levels of auditions for a reason.

Good luck. There should be exceptions made because of the unexpected influence of Mother Nature.
