I'm from Ellendale, ND and have 4 kids in the public school system. Common Core is just another misguided attempt to force children to learn in lockstep, forcing teachers to teach to the test and the children to learn in tandem without regard to their abilities. It's a terrible idea!

It's a dream - some states have shown the tenacity to stand up. Can ND or is it a lost cause? I've already seen the results if high stake standardized testing. It dumbs down teachers to teach towards the test and not towards mastery. We need to encourage good teachers and students. This Common core standards and testing does nothing to solve the underlying educational problem -- that is motivation and rewards. Students taught to pass the tests is not education nor is a basis of teacher merit. I just wish some one with a straight face could explain how English and math standards were developed under contract and without teachers whom have actually taught. The English and math standards were not endorsed by the committee chairs.. Dropping Euclidean geometry all together is a mistake. Deemphasising classic literature in favor of short technical teading traps the mind - it does not nourish it. I think some ones have a lot if explaining to do as to why this is any better than the current ND standards. Afterall setting those standards is part of someone's job here in ND. What I see here is a shirking iog that responsibility in fVor if the collective. I moved my family to ND purely necause of the already well established educational system. Now I find it is being turned into the sMe mediocracy which I sought to leave. This is just not right. A parent should have the right to move to a state based on educational differences ! Making us all the same is one huge mistake and N infringement in states rights.
