We, the undersigned fans, supporters, and friends of Richard Simmons, are aware of the news about his home. We ask for your help to preserve his home, which is a vital piece of popular culture and fitness history. We formally request that the city evaluate the property at 1350 Belfast Drive in the Hollywood Hills for status as a historic-cultural monument.

Richard spent his entire life with what he loved to do, which is to pour unconditional love, relentless joy, and vital health advocacy into the world. For 4 decades, this specific house was his safe haven, his creative studio, and the place where he would read thousands of heartfelt letters and emails from the fans who love him.

The real estate market currently views this historic 1937 property as a "development opportunity" or a teardown, as reported by Realtor.com. https://www.realtor.com/news/celebrity-real-estate... We believe that if the home of Richard is reduced to a vacant lot, it would be a devastation and a painful blow to his legacy and to the millions of folks he inspired to love and respect themselves. It would be disrespectful to what he stood for and dishonorable to his kindness and legacy.

This home should not be erased. Richard stood for three beautiful things: Love, kindness, and fitness. He was a beacon of hope for the lonely, the forgotten, and anyone who struggled to find their smile. He was very motivational and supportive and he had done what he could to help others and lift up their spirits when they would lose hope. His house serves as a memory of not just him, but his kindness and generosity, which is a sacred present to all of us.

I am a lifelong fan of Richard. For his 70th birthday on July 12, 2018, I wrote him a letter of love and appreciation and mailed it directly to his home. I even made a picture of him right on the paper, smiling in his classic exercise outfit. To know that the very walls that held that wave of love might be torn down breaks my heart and it breaks the hearts of fans all across the globe.

We ask the city to step in to protect his home from demolition. We shall preserve his property as a symbol of the joy Richard gave to us so that his legacy of kindness is never forgotten.

We love you, Richard! You are fantastic!
