I like clubs. To take them out would make learning much to sterile. We need a chance to immerse ourselves in a language, and the random situations in a club chat really help. It also makes the competition more fun, friendly, and personal. It helps to know that a few people will remain constant and some will come and go, elevating competition. It attracts people with the social aspect that may not otherwise get on often. It sets everyone equal.

As an admin of long successful club. If clubs are removed then I will quit Duolingo as there would be no reason to continue. Many are keeping up practicing and streaks due to club, encouragement from other members and what's not. So if Duolingo does proceed with removal, then it will lose many long term users.
